Reading at Home
It is really important to read with your child regularly and develop their love of reading. We encourage the children to read for five minutes on most days. We will listen to your child read daily and will change their books when needed. We encourage the children to read their reading book more than once. A first read will help your child to decode the words and a second re-read will help to develop fluency and understanding. Children will be given a reading book matched to their phonic ability. There will also be questions at the back of the book to support their comprehension skills. Sharing books with your child and reading bedtime stories will help your child to develop a love of reading developing their imagination and vocabulary.
Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to know ways to engage your child with reading at home or further develop their comprehensions skills through questioning. Follow the link to our Phonics page for more information about the teaching of phonics at Aldwyn. You can find resources to support your child's phonics and reading at home. https://www.aldwyn.tameside.sch.uk/phonics/
