Before and After School Club

An extended school is one that provides a range of activities and services, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community.

An extended school works with the local authority, local providers and other schools to provide access to a core offer of integrated services.

Aldwyn offers:

  • a varied range of activities including (study support, play / recreation, sport, music, arts and crafts and other special interest clubs and volunteering), in a safe place, combined with childcare in primary schools.
  • parenting and family support.
  • swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services.
  • community access to facilities including adult and family learning, ICT and sports grounds.

School works closely with parents, children and others to shape these activities around the needs of their community and may choose to provide extra services in response to demand.  These will often be provided beyond the school day but not necessarily by teachers or on the school site.

There is evidence that extended services can help to:

  • improve pupil attainment, self-confidence, motivation and attendance;
  • reduce exclusion rates;
  • better enable teachers to focus on teaching and learning;
  • enhance children's and families access to services.
