EYFS Sports Day

We had an enjoyable time on Friday 29th June taking part in our World Cup themed Sports Day.

EYFS visit to Cockfields Farm

On Tuesday 15th May 2018 the children in nursery and reception visited Cockfields farm. We had a fantastic day meeting and feeding different animals, taking part in a forest school experience and having fun in the sun with our friends and teachers.

On Wednesday 21st March we held an Africa themed day in the reception classroom. The children have been using the story of Handa's surprise to support their learning in class. Africa day was  a celebration of the work that we have carried out. Before the day we designed and printed t-shirts to wear on the day. During the day we were able to choose to take part in different creative activities.

Parent Workshop  - Tuesday 6th February 2018

We had a great response to our parent literacy workshop that we ran on Tuesday afternoon and evening. If you missed it, you may find the following help sheets useful for supporting your child at home.

Spring first half term

This half term we are using the story of the Three Little Pigs to support our learning. We are also covering the topic of homes alongside the story.

Class ROC retell the story of the Three Little Pigs using the story map they have written and talk for writing actions.

Autumn second half term

We have had a very busy second half term in Reception. We quickly settled back into the routine of school following the October half term and have enjoyed a wide variety of different activities.

When we came back to school we discovered some muddy foot prints on the floor that led to a cave! We looked for clues and used our imaginations to work out what was in the cave and discovered that it was a bear!!!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

The bear that was living in the cave brought along the story of We're Going on a Bear Hunt which we enjoyed using to support much of our learning in class during the term. We were able to meet the bear from the story and find out more about him. We were able to research different bears around the world, learning about their features, habitat and diets. We planned and held a birthday party for the bear in the cave. We learned the story and retold it using the Talk for Writing actions. Following the same story pattern, each class wrote their own version of the story. We also went on our own Bear Hunt around the moss and trekked through some very thick oozy mud, we even found a bear!

Christmas Craft Stay and Play

On Friday 8th December we had the pleasure of welcoming into school our parents and carers to join in with a Christmas craft afternoon. We all had an enjoyable afternoon.

EYFS Nativity

The Reception and Nursery children performed the Nativity story for the school and our parents and carers at the end of term. We did an amazing job of remembering our words and performing our songs and dances confidently.

Christmas Party

We had a great time at our Christmas Party.

Santa and Lightning come to visit

We finished the Autumn term with a visit from Santa, Lightning and an elf!

Autumn 2017 First half term

Welcome to a new school year. The children are settling very well into the routines of the reception classes and are forming good relationships with each other as they explore the provision areas and access the challenges and activities posed to them.

This half term we are using the story of The Little Red Hen and the theme of Autumn to support our learning in class. We have heard the story several times and now are beginning to write the story using Talk For Writing actions that we will use as we retell the tale.

These are the actions that we use

Why don't you ask your child if they can retell the story of Little Red Hen to you, you could record it and upload it to Tapestry and then we will share it in class.

Little Red Hen lives at Miss Elwell's house at the moment and will visit school so that we are able to find out more about her. We have arranged for Wellybobs to bring their mobile farm into school to have a meet up with the characters from the story.

As the term moves on we will also use the story of Little Red Hen makes a pizza, our visit to Frankie and Benny's will enhance this part of the story.

Frankie and Benny's visit

We had a great experience on our visit to Frankie and Benny's. We travelled on the metrolink tram to Ashton West before going to the restaurant to make our pizzas. We were all able to make our own pizzas, choosing the topics that we would like before eating them! Thank you to all the parents that supported our visit.

The Little Pink Cat

We have used the story of the Little Red Hen as a structure for our own story. Mrs Oakes and Mrs Clark's class chose to tell the story of The Little Pink Cat. They retold it to Mr Loy's class. Check out the clip below!

Read Write Inc phonics

All the children have started their phonic sessions which take place at the start of each day. During these sessions your child will be introduced to the individual sounds that letters make in words, they will use these to blend sounds to read words and they will learn to write letters and words. As they progress through the scheme they will also read sentences and then books within these sessions.

Follow this link to find out how we pronounce the letter sounds

We have been to Ryecroft park to look for signs of Autumn and to collect items that we could bring back to school for closer investigation.
